Caregivers should educate the substance abuser and his/her relatives or friends.
___1.) EDUCATE RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.
Persuade the relatives and friends of the substance abuser to become acquainted with literature on
addiction and related issues such as codependence. Encourage them to attend a local support group
for friends and relatives. An introductory

A relative or friend of a substance abuser can obtain additional information
concerning local support groups from Al-Anon and Alateen available at 1.
