Hiding and Sin

Elder Orson F. Whitney as quoted by Bruce R. McConkie in Mormon Doctrinee, 1966, p. 735.

Sin is the transgression of divine law, as made known through the conscience or by revelation. A man sins when he violates his conscience, going contrary to light and knowledge- not the light and knowledge that has come to his neighbor, but that which has come to himself. He sins when he does the opposite of what he knows to be right."

Thou shalt love the Lord they God with all they heart and with all they soul, and with all they mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hand all the law and the prophets.  (Matthew 22:36-40)

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear ... He that feareth is not made perfect in love.  (1 John 4:18)
