Rod graduated from Weber State College in 1981 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.  After graduating from the Utah police Academy in 1984 he went to work for the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.  While employed with the sheriff’s office, he directed his investigative efforts towards those types of crimes where children were the victims.  Rod was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, supervising the Detective Division where he continued to specialize in cases of child sexual and physical abuse. In 2002, Rod formed the Northern Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.  The task force focused their effort on identifying and apprehending online predators including those that arranged face-to-face meetings with children and the distribution and possession of child pornography.  The task force was very successful in their efforts and was recognized as one of the top part-time task forces in the country.

In July of 2004, Rod retired from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and went to work for the Weber County Attorney’s office as the Director of the Weber/Morgan Children’s Justice Center.  The center provides a child friendly atmosphere where children of abuse are interviewed by law enforcement and Division of Child and family Services.

Rod has held various church callings including: scout  master, bishopric councilor, primary teacher for three years (Star A’s) stake high council,  high priest group leader, and stake young men’s president.  Rod enjoys playing racquetball and spending time with his family.
